1 | INVEST WHEN YOU CAN
It is all about being present with your kids, being in the moment. We’re not saying that you have to quit your job, invest in a van, and start homeschooling from the road. What Nicholas and Colin discuss here is the intentionality in the time spent with your children. When you’re spending time with them, don’t also be responding to work emails or planning out other things to happen later. Make your kids feel like they’re the most important person in the world while you’re with them and let them know, through your actions and time, that you mean it.
2 | HOW DO YOU INVEST IN YOUR KIDS?
When kids are able to pursue what they’re passionate about, and when parents invest in those passion, a child is able to develop a sense of self. They will be able to identify with the things that they love, and will see that their passions and investments have value. When you show your child that what they’re interested in has worth, and that their pursuit of said hobby is valuable, they root themselves in these passions. You want your child to pursue what they’re interested in wholeheartedly, and you can help with that by doing it with them and encouraging them through it. It’s not just a financial investment, it’s collaborating with them, it’s guiding and directing them (and then letting them teach you) and reinforcing the fact that they’re worth being invested in and worth love.
Thanks for tuning into Uncharted, the podcast that provides guidance in the unforeseen territories of men’s lives. Today we have a great guest with us as we kick off August, Nicholas Runyan. Nicholas has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He also has experience working with co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders and is a Licensed Addiction Counselor.
In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about this epidemic that is happening with adolescent boys and young men who do not have role models/leaders. They have been raised by their moms (it’s always moms that bring their kids in for counseling). Listen in as the guys break down investment in the next generation and how to push into hard truths.
Also, stick around for our newest Rushmore Segment as Tyler, Danny, and Colin talk about their favorite comedies and the foundation this genre is in their lives.
