1 | LOOK FOR THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD WHEN YOU’RE IN SCRIPTURE

God is so creative, just look at our animal kingdom! God created every tiger with a unique set of stripes, just like the fingerprints on our hands. You can look around at the stars He flung in the sky and the canyons He had his rivers carve into the Earth. Our God is a God of joy, creativity, humor, and passion and we can see it everywhere we look and everywhere we read in His Word (starting in Genesis).

2 | FOCUS ON WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN SCRIPTURE

A great example of this can be seen is in the story of Noah and the animals coming on to the arc, two by two. A story that we all great up with correct? Well, that’s not the whole story, some of the animals came in seven by seven! Not a huge difference and discrepancy, it just shows us that we need to be focusing in on what the Word of God says, not media depiction, advertisements, the Hallmark channel or anything in between. We can be shaping our perceptions of reality with anything other than the authority of Scripture.

3 | BRING YOUR FEAR TO GOD

It’s ok to be afraid, we can look right at scripture and see plenty of people that were afraid. They were afraid, even when they knew that God was standing by their side, by they brought their fear to Him and trusted in His plan. It’s so easy for us to get wrapped up in a moment, to only see the situations that directly surround us and think that that’s all there is to the picture. But it’s not. God’s plan for us is so much bigger than we could ever imagine and we have to trust in that, even when things seem out of control, too big or too scary because we never have to face them alone.

We are so excited to bring you this series on Getting to know your Bible. We understand that it can be really intimidating to just pick up this rather large book, and start reading. The language can seem unfamiliar, the stories are set way in the past and you could be completely new to your faith. We understand that and we have been there.
