Do you ever struggle to find the words to pray? Have your prayers started to feel repetitive and empty?

One of the greatest ways to revive your prayer life through the work of the Holy Spirit is to pray God’s own words back to him. The Bible is filled with prayers, beautifully written and deeply heartfelt. Some verses can be read directly as prayers; others can be adapted.

Once you start spending time with God by praying scripture, you will begin to see prayers everywhere in the Bible!

Here are 10 of my favorites to get your started in your prayer time!

1. Praise

“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.” Psalm 9:1-2

2. Confession

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin!” Psalm 51:1-2

3. Renewal

“Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me…Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” Psalm 51:10, 12

4. Guidance

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
for I hide myself in you.
Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.” Psalm 143:8-10

5. Healing

LORD, please heal my broken heart and bind up my wounds. Psalm 147:3

6. Strength

“Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth, I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge…” Psalm 61:1-3a

7. Belief

Lord, I trust you. Help me to trust you more! (“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”) Mark 9:24b

8. Peace

LORD, fill me with your peace which surpasses all understanding, and guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

9. Growth

Father, help me each day to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18a

10. Thanksgiving
