STEWARDSHIP

We don’t talk much about stewardship. It really has become a “church” word, and sometimes it seems like code for “we want to raise more money.” In reality, a steward is someone who is entrusted to manage the affairs and estate of another. It comes from the days of knights, castles, dukes, and lords. The lord of the realm had a steward to manage all his wealth and the steward owned nothing. And so, we are called stewards by God and are called to manage his affairs and possessions.

God has given us more than 2,350 verses in the Bible instructing us on how to be good stewards of what he has placed in our care. Two-thirds of the parables that Jesus taught are about money, possessions, and stewardship. Stewardship is the second most discussed subject in the Bible!
