Key Focus Area

Many world communities are caught in cycles which prevent them from hearing the Gospel. The most immediate need they face is often for clean water, food, and the ability to provide for their family. Jesus had a heart for people; He met the physical need before addressing the eternal. In meeting the most basic needs of those we serve, we earn the right to also share God’s love. By educating locals, teaching hygiene, providing access to clean water, establishing sustainable businesses, and creating jobs, we are part of community transformation.

Short-Term Trips for 2017

Mission Hills Church - Missions in India

INDIA

India is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Their vast history began thousands of years before Christ and spans many different empires. Despite struggling with overpopulation and corruption, they are emerging as a significant global influence. Only 2.3% of the 1.6 billion population in India profess to be Christians. The current government, elected in 2014, is highly unfavorable toward Christians and persecution is prevalent. Despite this hostility toward Christianity, the gospel continues to move and transform lives across the country.

Mission Hills Church - Missions in Poland

POLAND

Poland is a central European country of about 38 million people. The fall of communism and the rise of commercialization have dramatically changed the lives and the values of the Polish people, especially for the younger generation. While nearly 90% of the population still consider themselves Roman Catholic, attendance has declined 58% between 1989 and 2008. In contrast, Poland’s evangelical population remains small, making up less than 1% of the population and resulting in abundant opportunities for evangelism and outreach.

Mission Hills Church - Missions in Costa Rica

COSTA RICA

There are three indigenous groups in the poverty-stricken Talamanca region: the Bribri, Cabecar, and KekoLdi. Talamanca is rooted in witchcraft, and the strong clan system heavily advocates for the use of shamans and witch-doctors. Patrimonial culture is also typical, and many of the men have open unions with several women, which is compounded by the communities problem of incest. Additionally, the majority of these indigenous people are illiterate.

PROFESSIONALS AND LAY LEADERS

This trip offers the opportunity to help strengthen a young church in an area of Costa Rica called Pérez Zeledón (pronounced PEAR-ez SEL-i-DOAN). Journey participants will have the chance to grow in their spiritual walk through cross-cultural interaction with both Christians and seekers alike, serving the whole person in a variety of ways.

Pre-trip preparation, time in Costa Rica, and debrief gatherings provide new ways to use our faith in practical ways as well as intersect with God’s heart for people in another part of our global family. Participants may include adults of any age, from young adults to individuals in mature years.

Strategic activities for this journey may include:

  • Hosting an event for women at risk, with the showing of the Magdalena film and crafts afterward.
  • Providing Bible Study methods to different leaders of the church. This could include Small Group leadership training.
  • Outreach to high school students. A government program recognizes the tough economy and teenagers without fathers in the home in this area. They asked CRU to provide a focus on spirituality for the teens.
  • Outreach to the college professors and students. One or more participants may share a 40-minute talk based on the person’s professional experience or knowledge in a particular area. The talk would include ways the person incorporates their faith in the workplace as well as how they came to faith in Christ.

Perez Zeledón is home to five universities, and the people are very open to Christ. Many, however, have never had the opportunity to make the connection between the sacrifice of Christ and their own lives. Leadership for the trip includes Mission Hills Church partners Carlos and Tatiana Tenorio, serving with CRU in San Jose’, Costa Rica, as well as Ken and Barb Haron leading the journey from the Denver metro area. Contact Ken Haron for more information.

Our Partners

Mission Hills partners with missionaries because we want to share the good news our neighbors next door and with those across the globe. Jesus said he came to seek and save the lost. During his time on earth, he served people – he taught them, fed them, healed them, and befriended them. We believe he is calling us to serve the lost in the same ways. Whether you decide to participate in a short-term trip, partner financially, or pray for our global missionaries, you can be part of what God is doing around the world.
