These teams are a part of the Highlands Ranch Metro District League and are subject to their rules. You may request to be on a team with up to one other person; we will try to honor those requests but make no guarantees as we try to balance teams. The other player must also request to play with you. Remaining individuals will be placed on teams by the Sports & Rec management team.

Why We Exist

To represent Christ and Mission Hills Church to your players by building relationships with them and guiding them toward taking a step in the process of beginning—or growing in—their relationship with Christ.

“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” | Colossians 4:5

Sports + Rec Captain Responsibilities

1 | To build relationships with your players in order to prepare their hearts for becoming involved at Mission Hills, in Men’s Ministry, and in the maturation of their faith.

2 | To look for opportunities to share the Gospel and your personal story–the impact Jesus has had in your life – with your players, and to intentionally invite them to be active at MHC.

3 | To teach your players how sports—and specifically things that happen in the games – reveal character, but can also be used to build character.

4 | To communicate each week with every player.

5 | A short message/theme—to be provided by Tyler Holden or Scott Sexson weekly.

6 | Specific game information—time, location reminders.

7 | Game wrap up information (Prayer reminders, conduct expectations, etc.).

8 | To stress character, sportsmanship, and healthy competitiveness; to diffuse and be no part of unsportsmanlike arguments; to remove players from games for being inappropriately argumentative, combative, or profane.

9 | To abide by the guidelines and rules of the league and make sure your team knows all rules and expectations.

10 | To pray with and for your team members.

11 | To assist the Sports and Recreation ministry by helping with game management (clock, scorekeeping, etc.). Let’s spread the responsibility and get more guys involved to have a co-captain to cover responsibilities in your absence.

12 | To attend pre-season and other appropriate captains’ meetings.

13 | To intentionally promote and encourage participation of your team members in a sports season community service project or event sponsored by the Sports and Rec Ministry.

Qualifications

1 | Be a disciple of Jesus, a member or regular attender of MHC, and be willing and ready to give an account of your faith.

2 | Be knowledgeable in the sport/activity.

3 | Be a good communicator and be willing to manage a team.

4 | Must attend a pre-season Captain Meeting and Training.

5 | Be supportive of Mission Hills Church, its leaders, the Sports + Rec Ministry, and be Christ-Focused above and beyond being Sports-Focused.
