MEET OUR ELDER CANDIDATES

STEVE KUGLER

I grew up in a Christian Home with a Presbyterian background in Denver, Colorado. Both of my parents were strong Christians and were great models for myself and my two siblings. My brother, Bruce, and his wife, Mindy, also attend Mission Hills. I met my wife, Janis, at Kennedy High School and after dating for seven years, we have now been married for 43. We are blessed to have two wonderful girls. Kelli is married to Mike Swan and they attend Mission Hills Church. They have one daughter, Addie (11), and a son, Grayson (7). Karri, our youngest, currently lives in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband Aaron. I have been blessed with a beautiful and caring family.

I attended Colorado State University and have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have been in the Mechanical Contracting business for 42 years and was a partner/founder of MTech Mechanical a large commercial HVAC/Plumbing Company. I recently retired at the end of 2021 and am enjoying figuring out the “second half” and looking forward to what God has in store for us. I have too many hobbies including: tennis, biking, skiing, fishing, hunting and more recently pickle ball.

Janis and I have been at Mission Hills for over 42 years; we were married by Pastor Chuck VerStraten. I accepted the Lord as a freshman in college at a weekend retreat at Mission Hills Church. I had the privilege of being baptized as an adult by Pastor Clyde McDowell and rededicated my life to serve him at that time. I have served in numerous leadership positions, and committees including the Facilities and Finance Committee and Co-Chairing the Building Committee through our numerous building projects. I served on the elder board from 2012-2016. It has been exciting to watch the Mission Hills family expand and transform lives through our love for the Lord.

SCOTT MITCHELL

I grew up in a Christian home and asked Christ into my heart in the third grade. I really started growing in my walk with Jesus as a high schooler and first was called into Christian leadership in the Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) chapter at Northwestern University as a college student.

I met my wife, Marisa, in college and we got married after graduation and moved out to Denver for her to attend the counseling program at Denver Seminary. We quickly found Mission Hills and have been a part of the congregation for almost 17 years. In that time I’ve enjoyed serving in a variety of roles including president of the young marrieds Sunday school class, assisting in kids ministry, teaching a men’s Bible study, hosting Life Groups, and helping with the launch of a ministry for families with adopted children.

Marisa and I have three children – our oldest are biological (Matson, 11, and Maisie, 8) and our youngest is adopted from China (Elliott, 6). In our free time we enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, and attending to the newest member of our household, Elbert, an aussiedoodle puppy.
