Men's Ministry

Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study

Thursday Mornings • 6:30 a.m.
Southwest Counseling Center
141 W. Davies Ave.

Men of the Bible • Taught by Harry Schanker
God created men with the need to reach out to other men, to connect for friendship, support, encouragement, and accountability. Studying God’s Word together is a powerful tool to transform the hearts and lives of men. This year, the Thursday Study will focus on Men of the Bible. What a great opportunity to learn from the great men of faith in ages past.

The location is great – right in the heart of Littleton and just west of Broadway. More than convenience, location and time, it is critical for guys to get together with other guys, just to talk through the “stuff” of every day life and to know that you’re not alone.  If you’re not currently in a small group and you need a little help getting into God’s word, Thursday mornings at 6:30 a.m. is probably a great place to start.  For information, contact Dean Coddington at 303-794-3055 or  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
–James 5:16

The Bible instructs us to pray for each other.  The Mission Hills Men’s Prayer time on Saturday mornings has been meeting for a number of years. All are welcome at this informal time to hold one another up in prayer.

Men's Ministry Priorities

PERSONAL HOLINESS mens-photo

Our desire is to help each man at Mission Hills Church to understand what true holiness is and to be successful on his journey of personal holiness.  That involves first understanding what it is and then getting some help in learning how to live it.

It’s important to note that this isn’t just our desire.  It’s a reflection of God’s desire for relationship with us as men.  The Bible is full of teachings where God has clearly demonstrated a desire for relationship. Personal holiness is understanding and knowing God, seeking Him first, spending time with Him and allowing all other things to fall into place as He has promised.  We’re reminded in 1 Peter 1:16 to “be holy, because I AM holy.”

With our busy lives, it is far too easy to neglect a relationship with our God; But it is far too critical to dismiss. The journey for holiness takes us out of the everyday life ‘stuff’ and puts everything in its proper place – behind the highest and most important relationship a man can have.

We’re implementing strategies to get guys at Mission Hills who have the desire, connected with leaders who also have the desire to understand true biblical holiness – the relationships that great men of faith had with our God and which is available to us today.

STRONG MARRIAGES

One of the most significant relationships for men today is with his wife.  At Mission Hills, we believe greatly in and support the institution created by God – marriage between a man and a woman.  Our desire is to ensure that every married man at Mission Hills understands a healthy marriage as designed by God, and as fully explained in His Word.

We want strong marriages at Mission Hills and those strong marriages depend on men not only understanding how important their leadership is to their wives, but exercising this on a daily basis.  We are looking for men who desire to understand  how to communicate effectively with our wives, the need for emotional intimacy, how to walk through conflicts when they happen (and they will) and the importance of leading and providing an example to our wives and children in their walk with God.

In Ephesians 5:25-33, the scriptures instruct us men to live with our wives in an understanding way and to love them as Christ loved the church.  In this passage and others, it is clear that the marriage relationship is a picture of Christ’s relationship with the church.  Our desire is to strengthen our understanding as men and to discover the practices of healthy marriages.

GREAT FRIENDSHIPS

Life is Tough – Don’t Go it Alone!

God designed us to go through life in quality relationship with others.  At Mission Hills, we want to help guys connect with other guys, reach a comfort level with one another and build committed relationships that will last a lifetime.

In Mark 2: 1-5, the story is told that while Jesus was preaching in the house at Capernaum, a few guys were determined to get their paralyzed buddy in front of Jesus with hopes of him being healed.  They climbed up on the roof, carrying their friend, dug or scratched a big hole through the roof and managed to lower their friend down into the crowd right in front of Jesus. These guys obviously cared deeply for their friend and were selflessly willing to take risks to help him.

We’re implementing a strategy to get every man at Mission Hills Church connected to an Adult Sunday School, a small men’s group or Bible Study and to allow that small group setting to provide guys with a support system in getting through everyday challenges facing guys today.   We see guys moving from just acquaintances to friends and brothers with other men at Mission Hills.
